Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions
What types of photography services do you offer?
-We offer professional wedding photography and portrait sessions including anniversary sessions,
surprise proposals, senior/graduation photos, maternity, and lifestyle newborn sessions.
Where are you located?
-We are located in Ashburn, Virginia.
What is your photography and editing style?
-Our photography style is a mix of candid and posed.
We will guide you through poses but still aim to capture spontaneous moments too.
We love romantic, detail-oriented imagery. Our editing style is clean, true-to-life, and timeless.
How much experience do you have?
Carling has been studying photography for the past 8 years.
She started photographing weddings in 2016 and has now photographed over 40 weddings.
What equipment do you use to shoot photography with?
We use Sony full-frame mirrorless camera bodies, a range of Sony E-Mount lenses,
Flashpoint and MagMod lighting systems, and more!
Do you travel?
Yes we do! We travel for any sessions or weddings,
but we especially love traveling for intimate weddings and adventurous elopements.
Do you provide RAW images from my wedding or engagement session?
We do not. We view edited images as final pieces of artwork.
We work hard in order to achieve a cohesive style and look to our images,
so RAW images are simply unfinished and unrepresentative of our work.
What if I lose my images?
No worries! We have your images backed up on a large local server, in the Cloud,
as well as temporarily on our working desktops.
Can my photos remain completely private and not shared to social media?
Absolutely. Privacy is something that our business will always prioritize and respect.
Do you offer printed products?
We do! We print heirloom products and albums through our professional lab.
Let us know if you'd like more information!
Will I get the copyright to my photos?
The copyright on any images we take remains in our hands.
Copyright simply means that we are the creators of the work
and that we can decide how the images are being used.
You will still be able to post, print, and enjoy your images freely without having obtained the copyright.
Engagement Session Questions
How much do you charge for an engagement session?
All engagement sessions are complimentary when you book a wedding package.
They are available à la carte starting at $450.
When should we book our engagement session?
We recommend booking your engagement session at least 3 months before your wedding date.
What time is best to do our engagement pictures?
We highly recommend considering sunrise for engagement photos.
Usually crowded locations are less busy, we love the lighting in the morning,
and you will have your sneak peek posted the same day!
Will you help us find a location for engagement photos?
Yes!! We have several locations we love to shoot at that we can recommend.
If you're looking for something new or different,

we can come up with a location together based on the look you're going for.
Can I bring my dog(s)/pet(s)?
Of course! Pets are family! Please let us know in advance though.
We also recommend bringing a friend the day of the shoot to help

so we can get some photos focused on just the two of you!
What should I wear?
We provide outfit consultations upon request! We can help you figure out color schemes,

flattering clothing silhouettes, and recommend our favorite shops for your session.
What if our location requires a permit or location fee?
Permit applications, permit fees, and location fees all must be settled by the client.
We've never had our photos taken professionally before, will you help us pose?
We will absolutely guide you, so don't worry! Our goal is to make you comfortable in front of the camera
and show you flattering poses during our session.
How long will it take to receive our engagement photos after the session?
4 weeks at maximum!
Wedding Questions
How do I book you for my wedding and how far in advance should I book?
We are currently booking 2020 and 2021 weddings.

If your wedding is in 2022, we haven't opened bookings yet. If your wedding is in 2020 and 2021, it's never too early!
If you're ready to book, contact us on the Inquire tab with as many details about your wedding

and we will continue the booking process from there.

Check out the Weddings tab on our site if you want a look at the rest of the process.
How much do you charge for weddings?

We know transparency is important to a lot of our clients,

but our weddings are custom quoted based on exactly what you need.
In order to give you our pricing, we need some information about your wedding and what you're looking for.
Our traditional 8 hour weddings begin at $4000. Intimate weddings and elopements begin at $2500.
Will you have a second photographer at my wedding? Will it be Dakota?
All second shooters are included for any of our booked weddings or elopements.

Dakota may attend your wedding as a second shooter or as an assistant, but it will not be guaranteed.

We also contract a few very talented wedding photographers that we trust to come second shoot for us,
so it could be one of them or it could be Dakota.
How many images will I get from my wedding?
We deliver an average of around 50-100 images per hour,
so if your wedding was 8 hours, you would receive 400-800+ images.
What happens if my wedding runs late? Will you stay longer than the contracted amount of time?
Yes, we will stay until you're ready to let us go!

Any overtime requirements will be billed after the wedding at a set rate.
Do you photograph destination weddings and elopements?
Definitely! We are currently looking to do more destination weddings.

If you're planning a destination wedding or elopement, please feel free to reach out and ask about our services!
Can my family and friends take pictures at the wedding too?
Yes, they may. We do ask that we are the only photographers during bride and groom portraits

and we highly recommend unplugged ceremonies.

During the rest of the day, we do not mind guests taking photos as long as it does not interfere with us

being able to document your wedding and doing what you hired us to do!
Should I give you a detailed shot list or show you my Pinterest board?
Do I have to provide food for you and your second photographer?
What is a first look?
If we cancel the wedding, will I receive my retainer back?
